Lord Jagannath is considered the ninth incarnation of the preserver and protector among the trinity, lord Vishnu. Lord Vishnu takes various forms in every yuga to eliminate the evil, protect his followers and reinforce the righteousness. Lord Jagannath basically emerged in Puri, Odisha as an incompletely carved wooden deity along with his companions; his elder brother Balaram who is the incarnation of the serpent Sesha and his youngest sister Subhadra the incarnation of Adi-Shakti. Here the Lord’s face is presented in a unique way as the ray of Sun. The face is dark coloured with bright red smile. His eyes are big round with black pupils.
